Masterclass Session 1 - Building relationships in the community

This Masterclass session will be the first in a series of eight. A schedule of dates and topics for the masterclass sessions can be found on the Hume City Council website.

The Enviro Champions masterclass sessions provide in-depth training in the key knowledge and skills you will need to plan and run a successful community-led project.

Anyone with a passion for the environment and sustainability can attend the masterclasses. There is no requirement to complete the introductory course before attending.

You are welcome to attend all of the masterclasses in the series, or just the ones that meet your specific skill development needs.

This masterclass will provide the opportunity to network with like-minded people and share your ideas about taking action for the environment and sustainability in Hume.

To be eligible to attend the masterclass series, you must currently live, work, study or volunteer in Hume.

What to expect

Building relationships in the community is an essential part of running a successful environmental or sustainability project with the community.

We will start with a Traditional Wurundjeri Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony.

Followed by a Bush Tucker Walk and Talk presented by Auntie Jo Russell through the parkland on the other side of Jackson's Creek at The Nook.

After the walk and talk we will share lunch under the rotunder.

During lunch we will talk through some of the important factors that contribute to successfully building community around a common goal like an environmental project.

What to bring

This will be an outdoor event so please dress according to the weather conditions on the day.

  • Close toe shoes for walking outdoors
  • Sun hat and sunscreen
  • Personal water bottle
  • Plate to share for lunch

You are encouraged to bring a plate or a favorite dish to share for lunch. There will be lunch basics provided for making your own salad wraps and there is a BBQ there if you would like to grill some zucchini surplus to share.
