Thunderstorm Asthma Season

Thunderstorm

From October to December, during the spring season, there is an increased risk of thunderstorm asthma in Hume City and surrounding areas. Thunderstorms during spring can cause a significant rise in asthma and hay fever symptoms, especially for those with a history of these conditions.

If you suffer from asthma or hay fever, or have experienced either in the past, it’s essential to be prepared throughout this high-risk period.

Key safety tips for spring:

  • Stay indoors with windows and doors securely closed, especially during storms.

  • Avoid exposure to strong winds, particularly before and during thunderstorms.

  • Keep your inhaler or reliever medication easily accessible at all times.

  • Consult your GP and create a personalized asthma action plan to manage symptoms during the season.
