Electrify Everything

Join the growing number of people who are creating all-electric, solar powered homes with no use of gas. Efficient, electric appliances are safe and healthy, and avoid gas emissions linked to illness such as asthma in children.

My Efficient Electric Home webinar

Tim Forcey, experienced home comfort and energy adviser, discusses how to transform any house into an efficient, comfortable, all-electric home with lower energy bills. In line with his new book, the My Efficient Electric Home Handbook, Tim shares expert advice on heating and cooling, heat pump hot water systems, induction cooktops, draught-proofing, insulation and solar energy.

Make your next choice electric

Now’s the time to plan so that when you’re ready to replace hot water systems, heating, cooling and cooktops, you can take up an efficient electric option. Create a personalised Go Electric Plan(PDF, 213KB) based on the age of your appliances and vehicle.

New home buyers can also view our handy tips(PDF, 577KB) for buying an energy efficient, comfortable home.

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners

Heating and cooling appliances are the largest users of energy in a home. A reverse-cycle air conditioner the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way to provide heating and cooling for year-round comfort. If you already have a split system air-conditioner, start using it for heating instead of your existing gas heating to lower your bills. You can take up Victorian Government rebates to replace gas and inefficient electric heaters with energy efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners.

Electric Heat Pump Hot Water

Water heating is the next largest user of energy in the home. You can access up to a $1,000 rebate for installing a heat pump hot water system. You can apply for this rebate even if you’ve already claimed a solar PV rebate through Solar Homes program. For more information visit the Solar Victoria website.

Induction Cooktops

Gas cooktops can be replaced with modern electric induction cooktops – which are safer, faster and easier to clean. Induction cooktops heat up quickly while leaving surrounding surfaces cool to touch. If a magnet sticks to your cookware it is induction compatible e.g. cast iron and some stainless steel pots. You can borrow a portable induction cooktop via Hume Libraries to trial the technology before upgrading. Learn more about induction cooktops.

Electric Cars or Bicycles

Electric cars are quiet, non-polluting and cheap to run. They also need little maintenance and can be charged with clean renewable energy. Electric and cargo bikes are a great alternative to using a car. For more information visit the Electric Vehicle Council.

Solar Panels and GreenPower

Rooftop solar panels reduce electricity bills and help our environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Hume Solar Roll-Out program makes it easier for Hume households to install quality, affordable solar and access generous rebates. Hume City Council offers a rebate up to $920 to concession card holders who install solar through the Hume program. For more information visit the Hume Solar Roll-Out.

Anyone can support more renewable energy in Australia by choosing GreenPower through their electricity provider.
