Let's Grow Hume

Vegie backyard garden

Hume City Council’s edible gardening program, Let’s Grow Hume is back this Spring!

Join us for a series of free, face-to-face edible gardening workshops across some of our wonderful community facilities, including our Community Gardens, Primary School Hubs and Neighbourhood Houses. Come along and discover how easy it is to create your own edible garden at home even if you are short on space! Some of the workshops include a cooking demonstration where you will learn how to prepare your home-grown veggies and create a healthy and delicious meal at home.

By attending any of the workshops you are eligible to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to receive a free ‘Ready to Grow’ kit with everything you need to continue your edible gardening journey at home. The kits will include:

  • Vegepod starter pack (includes raised Vegepod garden bed shown in image below, seeds, and perlite)
  • Pack of hand tools
  • Potting mix
  • Gardening gloves
  • 12-month subscription to Grow it Local
  • Mini Greenhouse to start your seeds

Please note, there are a limited number of "Ready to Grow" kits. To be in the running to receive a kit, you will need to fill out the Expression of Interest form that we will share with you after you have attended one or more of the workshops in the Let's Grow Hume series.

The first Expression of Interest form will be sent out to workshop attendees on 7 October 2024 and will close on 21 October 2024. You will find out if you are the lucky recipient of one of the kits on 11 November 2024.
