More than 120 local organisations will share in over $380,000 to help deliver important community services and initiatives thanks to Hume City Council’s 2019 Community Grants Program.
Mayor of Hume City, Cr Carly Moore said Hume was fortunate to have many active, dedicated and diverse local groups working to make the Hume community a great place to be.
“Through the Community Grants Program, we are able to provide a funding boost that supports these groups to build on their success and pursue new opportunities,” Cr Moore said.
“Successful applicants include schools, sporting clubs, cultural groups, seniors clubs and special interest groups.”
Highlights of the 2019 Community Grants Program include:
- assisting the Craigieburn Historical Interest Group in their efforts to record local history;
- supporting the Campbellfield Heights Primary School Community Hub with their playgroup program; and
- helping the Sunbury U3A to hold ballroom dancing events.
Through the Community Grants Program, multi-year partnership grants are also awarded. This year the following applicants have been successful and join 17 organisations currently receiving funding:
- Distinctive Options to present an All Abilities Performing Arts project;
- The Northern Community Legal Service to implement a legal education program for refugees and asylum seekers at Kangan Institute; and
- Second Chance Animal Rescue to educate and assist disadvantaged community members to affordably care for their pets.
