Are you a creative person living or working in Hume? You have a chance to be involved in an innovative mentor program.

Mayor of Hume City, Cr Carly Moore said the program is a unique professional development opportunity for Hume-based artists to build skills and knowledge about the process of public art development and commissioning.

“Participating artists will be asked to create new work, drawing inspiration from heritage items from the George Evans Museum collection, such as photographs of the region and artefacts from the rich social history of the area,” Cr Moore said.

“Together with objects and images from the collection, the works produced will be presented in an inaugural exhibition at the new Hume Global Learning Centre – Sunbury gallery.

“The inclusion of a dedicated gallery will add a really important cultural element to the facility, giving local artists the opportunity to showcase their works and for the community to experience the town’s history and stories in a new way.

“The new building is a vital piece of community infrastructure that will create opportunities for people to learn and share in a contemporary, purpose-built facility.”

Hume Council invites creative community members of any discipline, including writers, painters, photographers, sculptors, videographers, composers and performers to submit an expression of interest to take part in this first stage of the Cultural Commission project.

The artists participating in the exhibition project will also be invited to submit proposals for a permanent public commission for the new HGLC – Sunbury when the facility is opened.

The exhibition project also acknowledges the longstanding dedication of the George Evans Museum volunteers and will celebrate their collective contribution to Sunbury culture.
