Hume City Council will again celebrate creativity with local artists having the opportunity to share in a $20,000 grants program.

Council’s Arts Awards program recognises the achievements of Hume’s talented artists and supports costs involved in their arts practice, including further study, training, materials, equipment, professional memberships and travel.

There are three awards on offer; one for established artists over 30, another for emerging artists aged 30 years and under, and one for youth artists aged 12 -18 years. Winners receive up to

$3,000 each in the adult categories and up to $500 in the youth category, which they can use to support their artistic development.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore, said the awards boosted local involvement in the arts and supported professional development of local artists.

“Artists play a vital role in contributing to innovation, local identity and wellbeing in our community,” Cr Moore said.

“Our Arts Awards support artists by providing funds that help their professional development as well as showcase the work they do.

Hume City Council’s Arts Awards are open to all disciplines – including painting, sculpture, photography, textiles, drawing, music, theatre, dance, printmaking, ceramics, writing, new or mixed media.

Any artist who lives in Hume City can apply. Applications open 30 March 2020 and close 27 April 2020.
