Staying connected by bringing #HumeTogether
Published on 20 March 2020
Online library storytimes, encouraging use of Hume’s open spaces and livestreaming fitness classes are just some of the ways Hume City Council is countering the impacts of social isolation as part its #HumeTogether campaign launched today.
Mayor of Hume, Councillor Carly Moore said Council is committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of its community.
“Regular programs, such as supported playgroup session or visiting one of the many community centres for a senior's event, are all about improved wellbeing outcomes.
“While these activities are not currently taking place and social distancing is a necessity at this time, we do not want it to lead to loneliness and isolation.
“The Hume Together campaign seeks to support Hume residents during these difficult times by creating other ways for them to participate in positive and uplifting activities.
“Along with new ways to connect and enjoy Council programs, the campaign will also continue to inform residents of the many regular services that are still currently available.”
To support our community at this time, Council launched the Hume Together campaign with four main themes that highlight programs and services currently in operation:
- Together at Home
- Together in Health and Wellbeing
- Together in Business
- Together in Learning
“Over the coming days, weeks and maybe even months, you will start seeing the colour yellow across many of our services and the hashtag #HumeTogether on our social media channels,” Cr Moore said.
“Join the conversation, spread the positivity and take full advantage of Council’s services that will connect our community socially, at a time when we need to be a little more distant than normal.
“Along with helping to spread the positivity by letting others know about #HumeTogether, we also encourage all Hume residents to continue to be considerate of others.
“Whether it’s driving on our roads or buying groceries at your local supermarket and treating staff with respect, it is easy to demonstrate kindness in all of your actions.”
