Call on State Election candidates to help Build a Better Hume
Published on 12 July 2022
Funding to tackle congested roads, social housing investment and the redevelopment of Broadmeadows Train Station will lead Hume City Council’s campaign in the run up to the State Election on Saturday 26 November 2022.
Endorsed by Council at its meeting last night, the Build a Better Hume campaign will call on all State Election parties to commit to funding for the following priorities:
- Redevelopment of Broadmeadows Train Station
- Big Housing Build to invest in social housing at Broadmeadows’ Banksia Gardens Housing Estate
- Duplication of Sunbury Road (between Bulla-Diggers Rest Road and Melbourne Airport)
- Duplication of Mickleham Road (between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road)
- Duplication of Somerton Road (between Roxburgh Park Drive and Mickleham Road)
- Donnybrook Road improvements (Stage one – an additional dedicated left turn lane at the Mitchell Street roundabout)
Build a Better Hume is set to officially launch next month, with more information to be available on our website.
Hume City Council Mayor, Councillor Carly Moore said:
“As the closest level of government to the community, Council has a strong obligation to ensure the voices of our residents and businesses are heard by candidates vying for the State Election.
"There’s never been a more critical time to invest in our growing community and to stimulate the local economy with the creation of local jobs for local people.
"Along with a public campaign, Build a Better Hume will see us meeting with local candidates to ensure they understand our community’s priorities and why funding commitments are needed.”
