Celebrating the next generation of leaders in Hume City
Published on 24 November 2022
There was buzz and excitement earlier this week at Town Hall Broadmeadows for the inaugural Hume Young Leaders Awards.
The awards are a new Council initiative which recognise young people aged 12 to 24 making a positive contribution to their community. More than 40 nominations were received across seven award categories spanning social entrepreneurship, advocacy, gender equity and more.
Hume City has a growing population of young people who play a fundamental role in enriching and shaping the community. The awards program is an important opportunity to formally acknowledge, empower and support the next generation of leaders in Hume.
More than 170 people were in attendance to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the awards finalists. They were joined by family and friends, teachers, coaches, mentors, and Councillors to hear the winners announced.
MC Eve Chalker hosted the awards ceremony, with Hume Youth Action Committee members Majorie Falefata and Gulrana Burak announcing the winners. Entertainment was provided throughout the night by talented young artist Isaac McKenzie.
All winners and category finalists will be invited to attend a leadership workshop in January, where they will have the opportunity to further develop their leadership skills.
Congratulations to all the 2022 Hume Young Leaders Awards winners and finalists.
