Sunbury’s history is on display following the unveiling of new historical street signs back in December.

On Friday 9 December, Hume City Mayor Cr Joseph Haweil was joined by Cr Jarrod Bell, Cr Jack Medcraft, members of the Sunbury & District Heritage Association and members of the public to celebrate the official unveiling of the new signs.

A total of twenty-eight streets in Sunbury were selected for historical street signs after recommendations from the Sunbury & District Heritage Association. More than 100 signs have been made to replace the existing signage for these streets.

The new signs include details about the history behind each street name, using information provided by the Sunbury & District Heritage Association.

These historical street signs provide a glimpse into Hume City's past and help tell the story of Sunbury and its heritage.

Thank you to the Sunbury & District Heritage Association for their work on bringing this project to Council and assisting in its completion.

Please note that some signs are still being installed.

Quotes to be attributed to Mayor Cr Joseph Haweil:

“The history of our community is long and vast – it is that diversity and development of culture that makes Hume City the great place that it is today.

These signs will deliver a cultural boost to the Sunbury and wider Hume community and serve as a marker of our incredible history for all to see.”
