Published on 16 August 2023
Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 14 August 2023.
1. New Local Laws for Hume City
We've updated our local laws, which outline how we respond to local issues to improve life in Hume City.
Local Laws cover many things, including unsightly properties, animal droppings, hoon driving, shopping trolleys and much more.
The new laws will come into effect from Monday 4 September.

2. Hume Community Awards
Know a local legend? Then nominate them for the new Hume Community Awards!
This is a new program of Council that aims to celebrate those who go above and beyond. There will be eight categories to nominate for, with the winner of each category being awarded $500.
We’ll also be launching the Mayoral Recognition Program to acknowledge significant milestones for people in our community.

3. Events and Festivals Strategy
Our community loves events. Each year, more than 100 events are hosted in Hume City – so we’ve created a strategy to help grow and support them. It covers Council’s major and minor events, community events, community activities and commercial events.
This new strategy will help ensure our community can enjoy a healthy events calendar, and that our community feels supported when hosting events.

4. Draft Land and Biodiversity Plan
We’ve developed a new plan to protect our City’s landscapes and biodiversity – and we’re keen for your feedback.
The draft plan sets out the vision for how we’ll support healthy and thriving conservation reserves, landscape for wildlife, urban biodiversity and more.
The consultation will be live soon on Participate Hume.
More details, including official minutes, notices of motion and audio recordings will be published later this week.
