Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 9 October 2023.
1. Financial and Performance Statements for 2022/23
Council has approved the Financial and Performance Statements for the last financial year. Close to $100 million was spent in 2022/23 through our extensive capital works program which includes community facilities, roads, footpaths, parks and reserves – a record capital works investment for our growing community.
2. 2024 Education Scholarship Program
Council will award a total of $56,000 (excluding GST) to support the delivery of the Education Scholarship Program. Every Primary school across Hume was invited to nominate a year 6 student and each of the successful 56 students will receive $1,000 to support their transition to Secondary school.
3. 2024 Community Grants Program Allocation
Council has put $540,859 towards our 2024 Community Grants Program. The funds will continue to provide support for a wide variety of partnership, project and community-based grants across Hume City.
4. Hume Clean Taskforce Member Selection
Council has endorsed the appointment of 15 Hume Clean Taskforce community members for 2023-2024. The taskforce will aim to reduce litter and illegal dumping in hot spot areas and raise awareness of waste and litter issues across Hume. Councillor Jim Overend will act as the chairperson for the taskforce until October 2024.
5. Historical Street Sign Names
Council will launch a new consultation to allow members of the public and historical and heritage associations to make suggestions for streets on which historical street signs could be installed. A report will also be prepared to provide opportunities for more culturally and gender diverse people to be represented in this process.
