Fair Access Policy adopted to promote gender equality in sports
Published on 10 December 2024
Hume’s Fair Access Policy and Action Plan was adopted at last night’s Council meeting.
Fair Access Policy aims to address known barriers experienced by women, girls and gender diverse people in accessing and using community sports infrastructure, enhancing participation in sport and recreation while increasing engagement and representation in leadership and governance roles.
The policy, in alignment with the Gender Equality Act 2020 and the Victorian State Government’s Fair Access Roadmap, seeks to ensure equal opportunities in sport and recreation for all.
The Fair Access Action Plan, a key component of the policy, will be implemented between 2025-2028. This plan will work closely with local sports clubs, associations, and partners to bring the policy’s principles to life, promoting greater participation and representation in leadership roles.
With this initiative, Council continues to be a leader in fostering inclusivity and gender equality across the region.
