Introducing Jacksons Hill’s Artists-in-Residence and Council’s approved concept plan

Council is excited to introduce our Artists-in-Residence and the approved concept plans for Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct on Jacksons Hill.

Hume City Council’s Mayor Naim Kurt said the artists will help reflect and inform community aspirations and ideas for the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct.

Mayor Kurt said, “Our vision for the precinct is to create a destination that preserves and celebrates Sunbury’s significant cultural heritage and supports artistic, cultural and social expression from our community.”

“During our recent consultation, the concept plans for the precinct received a lot of positive feedback from our community and we’re now progressing to the detailed design phase for Buildings 22 and 24 at Jacksons Hill, Sunbury.”

“This is an exciting phase for the project, where the details of the future precinct will come to life – and our local art community are a big part of that.”

“We can’t wait to see our artists’ creativity at work – and to share their works with our community!” added Mayor Kurt.

The artists in residence include:

Mend It (Karen & Danny Ellis) - Materials repair

Miream Salameh - Visual Art - sculpture & film

Raquel Stevens - Ceramics

Ray Rattenbury - Visual Art - watercolour

Sarah Aitken – Performance

With support from the State Government, construction works on Buildings 22 and 24, along with the surrounding open space, are due to start in early 2025 and be completed by mid to late 2025.

This is just the beginning of our arts and cultural precinct, with future stages pending the completion of a complex planning and heritage process in partnership with the State Government.
