Join the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct Advisory Board
Published on 29 November 2024
We’re excited to announce that expressions of interest are now to join the Advisory Board of the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct (SCACP). This is a unique opportunity for skilled individuals to use their expertise to shape a significant community project and help bring our vision for this space to life.
What is the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct?
The precinct is being redeveloped to create a vibrant, inclusive hub where arts, culture, and the community can thrive. Once completed, it will be a space for people of all backgrounds to come together, connect, celebrate, and create. The precinct will evolve from a Council run space to a community led hub that will support local businesses, creative industries, and community groups.
As a member of the Advisory Board, you will play a key role in the operational planning of the precinct and ensure it remains a welcoming, successful, and sustainable space for everyone to enjoy.
What will the Advisory Board do?
The Advisory Board will offer advice to the Council Project Working Group, helping to make sure the precinct reflects the needs and goals of the community. Board members will also participate in community engagement activities and work with stakeholders to ensure the precinct’s success.
The role of the Advisory Board includes:
- Offering expertise and advice on planning the site's operations to help ensure its success including financial management, governance, partnerships and legal considerations.
- Sharing feedback and insights with the Project Working Group, representing the needs, expectations, and options for the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct that align with the overall Vision and key principles for the precinct.
- Being a strong advocate for the project and its vision, helping to build support within the local community and across the broader sector.
- Engaging with the community by participating in events and discussions and help communicate with key groups and stakeholders.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for people with demonstrated skills in a range of areas like:
- Creative industries, business, or economic development
- Financial management, governance, partnerships, or advocacy.
For the full criteria and application process, visit the Sunbury Community and Cultural Arts Precinct Advisory Board page.
We are also interested in hearing from individuals from underrepresented cohorts including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, young people, people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ people, and people living with disability.
Our vision for the precinct
The development of the Sunbury Community Arts and Cultural Precinct is guided by four key principles:
- A Welcoming, Creative Space: The precinct will be a safe, inclusive place where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to connect and create.
- A Place with Meaning: The precinct will honour the area’s history, from Aboriginal heritage to more recent times, through design and programming.
- A Successful, Sustainable Hub: The precinct will be a vibrant space that benefits the local economy and promotes environmental and cultural sustainability.
- Community Involvement: The precinct will be shaped by the community and reflect its needs and ideas.
Once the precinct is complete, it will evolve from a Council run space to a community led hub. The space will then be governed by a Commitee of Management.
