Hume City Council welcomes the announcement of a $192m funding commitment should an elected Liberal/Nationals Coalition form Government for the upgrade of Donnybrook Road.

This is a much-needed investment in Hume’s critical infrastructure that will support the rapidly growing communities of Mickleham and Kalkallo.

This investment comes at a pivotal moment for Melbourne’s north.

Currently, the road services over 38,000 residents, with thousands more expected to call this area home in the coming years. The road is a vital link to employment, education, and essential services, yet increasing congestion has significantly impacted residents' daily lives and emergency response times.

Hume City Council has long advocated for the duplication of Donnybrook Road from the Hume Freeway to Donnybrook Station with a priority focus on the section between the northern Hume Freeway exit (east of Polaris Road) and Dwyer Street.

The upgrade will ease congestion, improve road safety, and future-proof the region as development continues at a rapid pace.

This election commitment from the current Shadow Government ensures that much-needed improvements will be delivered to enhance livability, safety, and economic opportunities for local communities.

The duplication of Donnybrook Road will not only provide immediate relief for residents but also lay the groundwork for sustainable growth in Melbourne’s northern corridor.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Councillor Jarrod Bell:

“I’m proud the needs of our rapidly growing communities in Hume’s north are getting recognition the recognition they deserve.

Council has long been calling on all levels of government to support the upgrade of Donnybrook Road. Our residents deserve eased traffic conditions, improved safety, enhanced access to jobs and services, and future-proofing for this critical transport link.

We are proud to see this funding secured, and we look forward to the long-term benefits this will bring to our growing city.”
