Hume Gender Equity in Sports Network

The Hume Gender Equity in Sport Network (HGESN) is a partnership project of Hume City Council, Women’s Health In the North and DPV Health, proudly funded by the VicHealth Local Government Partnership.

The Network will be a group of local sport groups, organisations and individuals who would like to improve their knowledge and skills in promoting gender equity and equal participation in sport.

Why be a part of this Network?

Joining the HGESN will help increase your knowledge and skills around gender equity in sport. It will help you share these learnings with your community, and advocate for change.

What's involved?

The Network will run between November 2023 and August 2024 with meetings taking place bi-monthly for approximately 2 hours.

Participants will be involved in a number of network and professional development sessions related to gender equality in sport. Sessions will be developed based on the needs of the network.

Helpful information

The Hume Gender Equity in Sport Network represents a significant step towards addressing the existing disparities and barriers that hinder female and gender diverse participation in sports and active recreation activities.

By providing a dedicated platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, professional development and advocacy, this network will provide a powerful and supportive community to promote gender equality in sport. The network also supports the delivery of the Fair Access Roadmap across the municipality.

Topics of sessions will be developed based on the needs of the Network and may include: 

  • Gender equality in sports leadership
  • Reducing barriers to sport and recreation participation for women and gender-diverse people
  • Safe and respectful cultures
  • Equal access to community sport and recreation facilities
  • Fair Access Policy  

It is expected that applicants commit to the network for 4 sessions over a 12-month period and be an active member of the network. 

The network program is free but limited to 25 participants. All participants are required to submit an application. Selection will be based on a number of factors including diverse representation of sporting or activity codes and diverse representation of different population groups in our community.  

Please note that you do not have to be a member of a sporting club to apply as part of the network. Successful participants will be notified in October / November via email.
