Urban Birds – Flight Path 1
Once native to Craigieburn, but now Urban Birds: red-browed finch, red-rumped parrot, crested pigeon and superb fairy wren. Now sharing their landscape with us. The flowers are milkmaids, golden wattle, chocolate lilies and blue devils. The Manchurian Ornament Pear is a common sight amongst the housing.
Wetland Birds – Flight Path 4
Ponds and waterways are a feature of the Wetlands and the unique visitors they attract. Seen in Craigieburn are black swans, sacred kingfishers and a territorial native – the masked lapwing. The river red gum references past landscapes and a matted flax-lily flowers beside the pond. An imagined scene with the colours of nature, which always feature in my work.
About the artist
Lisa Buckland’s artistic practice revolves around nature and the connections within it. Over the past five years, she has primarily worked with acrylics, watercolours, and ink, and has moved into using digital mediums, such as Procreate on her iPad, to create vibrant pieces that explore these themes.
Drawing on her background as a graphic designer, Lisa’s understanding of colour and composition informs her work, while her painting and mark-making techniques are influenced by her study of Japanese calligraphy and the use of Asian brushes.
Deeply connected to the Craigieburn community, Lisa has showcased her artwork in several exhibitions over the last four years, including the Town Hall Broadmeadows Gallery, Crown Street Stables in Flemington, and the Hume Global Learning Centre in Sunbury.
Her recent achievements include being invited to exhibit at the Hume Winter Lights Festival 2023, being selected as an artist for the Exeloo Public Art Project in Hume and creating artwork for the Hume City Council Christmas Decal. In 2024, she was featured on the Projection Wall of Brimbank City Council.
