Children: Our Voices have a right to be heard

Children: Our Voices have a right to be heard is an invitation to listen closely to what children have to say. This exhibition explores the rights of children through a careful curation of children’s drawings, painting, photography, sculpture and words woven together to express their ideas, wishes and wonderings about how children participate in and belong to their communities.

These explorations presented by KU Craigieburn Children’s Centre, aim to illuminate how a rights perspective on early childhood necessitates discussion, deliberation and civic engagement by the adults who are enriched by the children in their lives.

These contemporary perspectives are complemented by historical viewpoints of children drawn from Hume’s George Evans Collection, together with a selection of short audio stories by young adults that recount childhood experiences that challenged their rights to autonomy, safety and self-expression.
