Hot Spot - community exhibition
Hot Spot showcased artwork made by members of Hume’s creative community under the challenging circumstances of a global pandemic. The exhibition was developed in response to the multiple lockdowns and restrictions experienced in Melbourne since 2020 as a celebration of resilience and the enduring creative freedom of artists to find meaning in unusual experiences.
In the spirit of the sudden changes and limitations we have adapted to in recent times, an open call out was made for submissions of up to three works made to a brief that included strict restrictions of scale and duration. The responses received and displayed reveal a rich cross-section of the creative practices flourishing across Hume.
The exhibition included video work made through the Youth Arts Project (YAP) and an area dedicated to a rotating display of works made by artists in residence, creative collectives, through workshops and by gallery guests.
