Light, Lines and Color: Recalling the Landscape
The City of Hume’s unique landscape has played an enduring role in defining the local history, heritage and identity of the area.
Featuring significant artworks from the Hume’s Civic Collection and local artists Light, Lines and Color: Recalling the Landscape exhibition presents a visually historical narrative of the City of Hume’s everchanging landscape.
From First Nations artworks depicting ancient songlines, to the early maps outlining subdivisions of the local colonised settlements and the illusory images of flooded watercourses and local woodlands - these images represent changing attitudes and highlight the important role art plays in connecting to Country, communicating history, defining territory and documenting change.
This exhibition also incorporates native grassland and bird studies that incidentally reference the threatened status of the natural landscape.
Light, Lines and Color: Recalling the Landscape exhibition provides an invitation to reflect upon the diverse interpretations of local landscapes and how they continue to capture the imagination.
