Portraits of Punjab - Gursewak Singh
Portraits of Punjab offers a lens on the architecture, nature, villages and people of Punjab, a region in north-western India and the homeland of more than 12,000 residents of Hume.
Inspired by the landscapes, faces, and colours of Punjab, and the artists personal connection to the region, the paintings capture the different facets of the Punjabi identity. Diasporic Punjab’s aspire to keep the connection to the homeland alive by nurturing this identity, and the exhibition is the artist’s own efforts to strengthen his relationship while offering the community an opportunity to re-connect with or discover Punjab.
Audio of Indian classical instruments used in Sikh devotional music, including dilruba, rebab, and tabla, complement the paintings to enhance the exhibition environment.
A Sikh Punjabi and a Mickleham resident, Gursewak Singh is still a learner and a developing artist who enjoys painting between realism and impressionism. In putting together his first exhibition, Gursewak is looking to grow creatively, focusing on different subjects and capturing his perspective and his emotions through brush and paint.
