National Recycling Week 2024

National Recycling Week was created by Planet Ark in 1996 and is held every year during the second week of November. This year, National Recycling Week is 11–17 November, and we are celebrating with free activities throughout the month!

Free coffee (BYO reusable cup)

The coffees at Bean and Brite Café will be free on Tuesday 12 November – but only if you bring a reusable cup or mug! Our waste education officers will be there from 9am to 11am to talk recycling and reusables. Free coffees limited to the first 100 customers.

CARYA film night: The Endangered Generation?

The Climate Adaptation Requires Youth Action (CARYA) team from Banksia Gardens is hosting its third annual film night featuring The Endangered Generation?

Narrated by Laura Dern, the film follows intrepid scientists, activists, artists and First Nations leaders from around the world who, through their research and experiences, show how diversity, collaboration and creativity are the most effective tools for tackling the global challenges threatening our survival.

Tickets are by donation and refreshments will be provided by The Common Bean Café.

Make your own beeswax wrap

In this hands-on workshop you’ll make your own beeswax wrap using materials provided and learn some easy ways to keep food fresh and reduce the need for single use plastic. This session is aimed at adults. Free event; places are limited.

Bottle top mural collaborative art project

Small and loose plastics often find their way into our creeks and rivers. As part of Crafternoon at Sunbury Neighbourhood House, we’ll be turning those unwanted plastics into something interesting by creating a colourful mural. Join us at this one-off event to create an inspiring image of a beautiful and clean environment. Free event; places are limited.
