Hard waste collections

Hard waste collections are available to help you get rid of items that can't be put in your household bins. All Hume residents, including renters, can use their waste vouchers to book free hard waste collections.

Before you book:

  • Only accepted items will be collected. Check what we can accept.
  • Hard waste must be kept on your front lawn or driveway for collection. Items placed on the nature strip without permission may incur fines.

If this is an issue, call 9205 2200 (option 3) to discuss your options prior to booking.

  • If you live in a unit, townhouse or apartment:
    • Call 9205 2200 (select option 3) to book and confirm where to put your hard waste for collection.
    • Let your Facilities Manager or Body Corporate know you have booked a collection and where the waste will be collected from.

Please book your hard waste collection before placing items out for collection. By booking, you confirm you have read and accept the conditions of service.

Please book your hard waste collection before putting items out.

Check the list of accepted items before booking. Only accepted items will be collected.

When to put your items out for collection:

  • Place items out the weekend prior (no later than 6am Monday) to your collection week.
  • Refer to your booking confirmation for your collection week.

Where to place your items:

  • Keep items on your front lawn, driveway, or an alternate Council-approved location.
  • Keep items within 2 metres of your property boundary or fence.
  • Ensure your waste can be collected safely:
    • Keep any gates open and/or provide driveway access. Gate openings need to be wide enough to safely carry items through.
    • Keep items away from buildings, fences or cars.
    • Place items neatly. Do not stack items above 1 metre (waist height) high.
  • Only put items out that you want collected. Other items near hard waste or bundled branch piles may be taken by mistake and no compensation will be given.

If we are unable to safely access and remove your hard waste items, your collection may not take place. If this happens, we will leave a note and you will need to move the items and re-book your collection.

Please note that we are still updating the hard waste booking system in line with the new waste vouchers.

When you make a booking, you will be asked how much waste you are putting out for collection.

The options available for the 1 October 2023 to 30 September 2024 rates period are:

Equivalent to one annual hard waste entitlement
  • 6 cubic metres (6m long x 1m wide x 1m high, or 3m long x 2m wide x 1m high)
Equivalent to two annual hard waste entitlements

Your hard waste must fit within the area specified for your booking.

From 1 July 2024, you will be able to use your five annual waste vouchers to book hard waste collections. Each waste voucher allows the disposal of up to 2m3 of waste.
