Following the opening of Forest Red Gum Drive, Mickleham to the nearby residential estate there has been a continued increase in the volume of traffic.

Historic and recent traffic counts undertaken by Council indicate truck volumes have increased significantly on Forest Red Gum Drive. The count showed that approximately 6.5 per cent of traffic was heavy trucks. The typical volume of heavy trucks is 2 per cent. This volume of heavy vehicles is significantly greater than a local road is designed to cater for.

What is Council suggesting?

Based on complaints from community the quality of life for residents living along these roads is being negatively affected. There are also safety concerns due to the road width which has resulted in collisions with parked vehicles.

Council proposes erecting 'No Trucks' signage for Forest Red Gum Drive and Realm Vista. The signs restricts heavy vehicle traffic (over 4.5 tonnes of gross vehicle mass (GVM)) from accessing these roads.

Are there exceptions to the ban?

Yes, the exceptions to the heavy vehicle ban are:

  • emergency vehicles
  • residents on the affected roads who own heavy vehicles
  • residents on the affected roads who need to park their workplace's heavy vehicle on their property
  • heavy vehicles servicing properties on the affected roads.
