Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion is at the heart of Hume City Council. We have a range of working groups to facilitate networking, sharing ideas and to collaborate on DEI topics and initiatives as we continue to look for opportunities to do things better every day.
Membership of our working groups consists of a cross section of our diverse workforce and has the endorsement of our senior leadership team.
Currently we have a Gender Equality, LGBTIQA+ and Family Violence Prevention Working Groups as well as a Gender Equality Action Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan and a Diversity and Inclusion Governance Group framework.

Professional development
A range of learning and development activities are offered to staff across Council, including informal on-the-job coaching, online learning , in-house workshops, external courses, conferences and seminars.
Corporate Health Insurance
Hume City Council Health Plan is a corporate health insurance arrangement designed by Choosewell for our employees.
The plan offers a broad range of hospital and extras options from leading health insurer Bupa, a refund of your hospital excess payments, as well as an expert advisory service to help you find the right cover.
Discounted access to our Leisure Centres
Council staff can nominate one eligible family member and both access a discounted membership at our Leisure Centres.
This includes a platinum membership to all three centres – Broadmeadows Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Splash Aqua Park & Leisure Centre and Sunbury Aquatic & Leisure Centre.
A platinum membership entitles access to the gym, group fitness, aquatics, health and fitness consultations, personalised exercise programs and the HumeFit App.
Travel green
We’re committed to limiting traffic congestion and car dependency and encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport to and from the workplace, including carpooling, cycling and the use of public transport.
We’re part of the Myki Commuter Club, which allows staff to purchase an annual Myki 365-day pass at a 25 to33% discounted rate off the price ondaily and weekly passes.
To support staff to travel green, we offer an interest free loan to employees for the purchase of a bicycle or public transport ticket which can be repaid through convenient fortnightly payroll deductions.
Library membership
Staff are invited to join Hume's library service. With five different library locations, you can borrow from the catalogue, reserve books online, participate in programs and use the computers or Wi-Fi for free. Library members can also access LinkedIn Learning where you can get personalized career guidance, expert-led content, and skills insights to help you progress your career.
