John McMahon Recreation Reserve Upgrade

  • Project statusCompleted
  • Project value$4.12 million

John McMahon Reserve has undergone a $4.12 million upgrade to improve open spaces and sports facilities for local clubs and community.

What we did

The project included a new oval, changeroom pavilion, social rooms, new netball courts, walking and running track, outdoor exercise equipment and an exciting new playspace.

The playspace has been designed for all ages with a flying fox, climbing frame, play units, trampolines, swings, carousel, nature play area and skate/scooter area.

The exercise equipment area features a fully adjustable exercise bike, the first of its kind in Melbourne. And the magnetic kettle bells provide 26 different activity options.

There’s BBQ’s, picnic areas and plenty of open spaces for people to relax.

Why we did it

John McMahon Reserve in Sunbury is home to local AFL, netball, cricket and softball clubs.

These new facilities will allow space for everybody and allows clubs more opportunities to use the reserve.

The new playspace, BBQ and picnic facilities encourage everyone in the community to visit and enjoy the reserve with their friends and family.

Supported by

This project was supported by the Victorian Government as part of the Growing Suburbs Fund.

What's next?

In 2021, we’ll be installing a new lighting system for Softball Diamond 2 to support night time softball for the community.
