Local Government Elections 2024

Voting in the Hume City Council election has now closed.

Detailed results have been published on the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) website.

VEC Update

On Monday 24 February 2025, the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) will send 22,597 apparent failure-to-vote notices to persons who were required to vote at the Hume City Council 2024 general elections however appear not to have voted. The deadline for responding to the notice is Monday 24 March 2025.

As a reminder, the apparent failure-to-vote notice does not carry a penalty. Persons issued with an apparent failure-to-vote notice should respond to the notice providing the reasons why they failed to vote at the elections. If a person does not respond or does not provide a sufficient response, they may be issued with an infringement notice. The infringement notice carries a penalty of $99.00.

All of the instructions on how to respond are fully detailed on the notice, and a reply-paid envelope is provided. Any public enquiries in relation to the notice should be directed to the VEC’s compulsory voting centre on 1300 551 575. This is a different number from the VEC’s general public enquiry line (131 832 or (03) 8620 1100). It would be appreciated if you could please brief your customer service officers accordingly.

Please note that the Council cannot accept excuses on behalf of the VEC. Any correspondence in relation to a person’s failure to vote at the elections must be referred to the VEC as soon as possible, as it will need to be assessed by the compulsory voting team and will be added to the records from the elections, which are sealed and held safely and securely by the VEC.

If you didn't vote and have questions about what happens next, visit the VEC website.
