Local Government Elections 2024

The next Local Government General Elections will be held on Saturday, 26 October 2024.

Leading up to the October elections, we will be regularly updating this web page.

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) is responsible for the conduct of all Victorian Local Government elections, by-elections, and countbacks.

Voting

Voting in this election is by post only. VEC will post ballot packs to all enrolled voters from Monday 7 October.

Your ballot pack will contain:

  • a ballot paper
  • candidate statements
  • a ballot paper envelope (for your vote to go in)
  • a reply-paid envelope (for your ballot paper envelope to go in)
  • a leaflet with instructions in other languages.

How to vote

Follow the instructions in your ballot pack to complete your vote.

Make sure you post it or drop it off at the election office before 6pm on Friday 25 October.

Local mail collection times differ. Check the collection time on your post box to make sure your vote is in the mail on time.

If you are away between Monday 7 October and Friday 25 October, you can still vote by visiting the VEC website.

Candidates

If you wish to stand as a candidate in this election, nominations will:

  • open on Monday 9 September
  • close at 12pm Tuesday 17 September.

We are hosting Election Candidate Information Sessions with CEO Sheena Frost this July and August. Learn about Hume City, the organisation, and what it means to be a Councillor.

  • Thursday 22 August, 6.30–7.30pm, Town Hall Broadmeadows
  • Tuesday 27 August, 6.30–7.30 PM, Hume Global Learning Centre Sunbury

Electoral structure update

The electoral structure (Wards) of Hume City Council have changed. These changes will apply in the Local Government General Election on Saturday 26 October 2024.

Hume will have 11 wards with a single Councillor representing each ward. These single wards will be named: Aitken, Bababi Marning, Burt-Kur-Min, Emu Creek, Jacksons Hill, Merlynston Creek, Mount Ridley, Roxburgh Park, Tullamarine, Woodlands and Yubup.
