LGBTQIA+ Youth Action Group
LGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces Project
We are thrilled to present this project which has been shaped by the young people of Hume. Throughout the development of the project a Youth Action Group (YAG) was formed with local LGBTQIA+ young people. The YAG worked with Hume Youth Services and Banksia Gardens Community Services to develop a survey which established what makes young people feel safe.
33 young people participated in the survey which gave insight into the experience and needs of the community. From these insights a checklist was created with the top suggestions to be considered when making a space safe for LGBTQIA+ people. We hope this checklist can inform and guide businesses, services and community agencies, towards creating a welcoming environment for everyone.
The LGBTQIA Safe Spaces Checklist
The LGBTQIA Safe Spaces Checklist Poster.pdf(PDF, 1MB) was created in consultation with the LGBTQIA+ Youth Action Group, 33 local queer young people and local services.
It is a checklist of actionable items that will help create a safe space for all, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation.
Place the poster up in your office or workspace and see how many you’re doing and what more you could do.
